It's Haitian Creole, much like your story "Plural of Anecdote" it resulted from the mixing of Europeans and 'natives'. The black slave population of Haiti spoke a variety of African languages, mostly of West African origin while their masters spoke French. Haitian Creole, or any other Creole language evolved as the lingua franca for both parties to communicate with each other.
